Faith = Risk Part 5: Amazing Things
In our daily family bible time we are studying the book of Joshua. It's a fascinating look into the heart of God. Twice in the first two chapters God lets us know that He wants us to be an active partner with Him to fulfill His promises. In chapter 1 God tells Joshua that He will give the Israelites every place where they set their feet (vs 3). They had access to the promised land, but they had to be willing to take it before they could possess it. In chapter 3 they are preparing to cross the Jordan River when Joshua says, "...tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you."(vs 5) Then God told the priests carrying the ark of the covenant to go first (meaning that God will lead) & then stand in the river. Notice in verse 13 that the waters didn't start receding and stand up in a heap until the priests stepped into the water. Would "amazing things" have happened if the priests wouldn't have had faith to put their feet in the running river like God told them to?
Too many Christians don't see "amazing things" because they don't have the faith to step out of their comfort zone to serve in the Kingdom of God. Or because they don't believe God does those things anymore. Or because they are content with doing "everything right" on Sunday morning from 9:00-11:00.
When we don't have the guts to step out in faith & let God lead us into the running river, then He is robbed of the glory that rightfully belongs to Him.
